Why it matters

Supermarket proximity formats have become an important growth strategy for retailers across Spain as urban consumers increasingly favour smaller neighbourhood stores for everyday grocery purchases. This trend is shaping the wider Spain supermarket sector, where retailers are expanding neighbourhood locations to stay closer to local communities.

By expanding its local network, Dia continues to strengthen its position in Spain’s competitive grocery retail market while improving accessibility to food retail in residential areas.
