LOKEREN, Belgium — Jumbo has strengthened its presence in Belgium with the opening of a new supermarket in Lokeren, marking its 46th store in the country and its 12th location in East Flanders.
The new Jumbo store opened on 10 June at Kleine Dam 50 and is operated by local entrepreneurs Stoffel Tielen and Kat Libotte. The supermarket spans 1,300 square metres and employs around 30 people. Customers can choose from approximately 16,000 products, including fresh food, local specialties and national brands.
The opening represents another step in Jumbo’s ongoing expansion strategy in Belgium, where the retailer continues to grow its network while emphasizing local sourcing and community engagement.
Strong focus on local products
A key feature of the new Jumbo Lokeren store is its focus on regional suppliers. The assortment includes fruit juices from Verhofstede, dairy products from Mili Hoevezuivel, granola from Lynn’s Granola, cookies from Aerts, beers from Haeseveld Brewery and the well-known Lokeren horse sausage from Vehent Slagerij.
By working with local producers, Jumbo aims to offer customers products that reflect regional tastes while supporting local businesses.
The store also features 72 parking spaces and operates daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., including Sundays and public holidays.
To mark the opening, Jumbo launched a week of promotional activities, including gifts for customers and prize giveaways designed to attract shoppers to the new location.
The Lokeren opening further expands Jumbo’s footprint in East Flanders and highlights the retailer’s continued investment in the Belgian grocery market. As competition among supermarket chains remains strong, local sourcing and customer-focused store formats are becoming increasingly important differentiators.
For Jumbo, the new Lokeren branch adds another milestone to its Belgian growth strategy while strengthening its position in the region.
