US supermarket retailer Meijer has been certified as a Great Place to Work for the eighth consecutive year, reflecting continued investment in employee experience across its operations in the Midwest.

The retailer, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, announced the recognition on 16 June. The certification is based on employee feedback regarding workplace culture, trust, respect, and overall job satisfaction.

Meijer operates more than 500 retail locations across the Midwest and employs more than 70,000 people. The company said the latest certification highlights its ongoing focus on creating an environment where employees can build long-term careers.

The retailer offers a range of workforce benefits, including weekly pay, employee discounts, flexible scheduling, education assistance, career development programmes, paid parental leave, childcare support, health coverage, and retirement contributions.

Beyond employee benefits, Meijer continues to support local communities through sponsorships, food pantry partnerships, charitable donations, and its Meijer Team Gives programme, which allows employees to help direct funding toward local nonprofit organisations.

The recognition comes as supermarket operators across the United States continue to face competition for skilled retail workers. Employee retention, recruitment, and workforce development have become increasingly important priorities as retailers seek to improve customer service, support store operations, and strengthen long-term business performance.

For large supermarket chains, workplace culture is becoming a key differentiator in attracting and retaining employees in a competitive labour market.

Meijer said it remains committed to investing in its workforce while supporting the communities it serves throughout the Midwest.

As labour challenges continue to shape the US grocery industry, workforce-focused initiatives are expected to remain a strategic priority for supermarket retailers.
