Delhaize Belgium Leadership Change Announced

The Delhaize Belgium leadership change will take place at the start of 2026. Ahold Delhaize has named Alexandros Boussis as the new Brand President of Delhaize Belgium, effective January 1, 2026. He will take over from Xavier Piesvaux, who has led the brand since 2017.

Boussis is currently Senior Vice President for Commerce and Marketing at Delhaize. He joined the company in 2011 and has spent more than a decade in different commercial and finance roles. Since 2019, he has served on the Delhaize Executive Committee and played a key role in driving cross-brand cooperation within the Ahold Delhaize group.

The company said that Piesvaux will ensure a smooth transition before stepping down. After January 1, 2026, he will continue to work within the wider Ahold Delhaize organization, with further details to be shared later this year.

Under Piesvaux’s leadership, Delhaize launched a brand strategy focused on fresh and healthy products, built around the slogan “Better eating is at the heart of better living, for all.” He also oversaw Delhaize’s move to a 100% affiliated store model in Belgium, reshaping its business for long-term stability.

Claude Sarrailh, CEO of Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia, thanked Piesvaux for his leadership over the past eight years and congratulated Boussis on his new role. He said Boussis has shown strong strategic vision and understanding of the Belgian retail market.

Boussis said he is proud to continue Delhaize’s mission alongside its 30,000 employees, independent operators, and suppliers, serving more than five million weekly customers.

Why It Matters

This leadership change is important for retailers, suppliers, and partners across Belgium’s grocery market.
Delhaize’s shift to a full franchise model has already changed how suppliers and logistics partners work with the chain.
Under Alexandros Boussis, the focus on commercial performance, category innovation, and local partnerships is expected to continue.

For Ahold Delhaize, this marks a new phase of leadership renewal across Europe.
Delhaize remains a central part of the group’s portfolio, with a strong reputation in health, quality, and service.
Industry observers will watch closely how Boussis balances brand heritage with new retail challenges in 2026.
