Gerresheimer has received formal validation of its climate goals from the Science Based Targets initiative, confirming that its CO₂e reduction plans align with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C pathway.
The company aims to cut Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 52% by 2030, using 2019 as the baseline. It also plans to reduce the intensity of selected Scope 3 emissions by 64% by 2034 compared with 2023 levels.
By the end of 2029, Gerresheimer expects 65% of its suppliers, measured by expenditure on goods and services, to have their own science-based climate targets. The move strengthens CO₂e control across the full supply chain.
The announcement highlights how the Düsseldorf-based manufacturer is applying recognised methods to measure and document progress. Scope 1 covers direct emissions from its facilities, Scope 2 covers energy supply, and selected Scope 3 categories include transport, fuel-related activities and end-of-life treatment of sold products.
Gerresheimer reports annually on its climate performance and shares data with ratings bodies including CDP, EcoVadis, MSCI, Sustainalytics and ISS.
The company operates more than 40 sites in Europe, the Americas and Asia, supplying containment systems, medical devices and digital health solutions. Together with Bormioli Pharma, it generated around €2.4bn in revenue in 2024.
