Natural Grocers expands private-label line with new organic cheeses

Natural Grocers has added several new organic cheeses to its house-brand range, reinforcing the retailer’s commitment to affordable, sustainable dairy.

The expansion includes Organic Medium Cheddar Cheese Slices made with real California milk and organic-approved microbial coagulate instead of animal rennet. Priced at $4.99 for a 6-ounce pack, the slices align with the company’s “Always Affordable Price” promise.

According to Natural Grocers, the cheeses come from farms that meet its pasture-based dairy standards. Animals graze outdoors for the entire growing season, getting most of their nutrition from fresh grasses.

The production partner processes and packages products within a 100-mile radius to maintain freshness and reduce transport emissions. Nearly 87% of the 48,000 gallons of water used daily in cheesemaking is cleaned and reused. The brand’s packaging also uses 20% less plastic, lowering its environmental footprint.

Natural Grocers says its approach reflects its support for small family farms, animal welfare, and regenerative agriculture. A short film, Meet Your Farmer: From the Soil Up, features one of the dairy families behind the new cheese range.

Why it matters
This launch strengthens Natural Grocers’ private-label offer at a time when organic and ethical sourcing remain key drivers in U.S. supermarket dairy. By combining value pricing with premium standards, the retailer continues to compete strongly against larger national brands.
