Aldi has announced reopening dates for eight refurbished supermarkets across the UK, with the first store returning to trading on 5 November and the final location due to reopen on 3 December 2026.
The programme covers Bradford, Liskeard, Greenock, Cardiff, Dunston, Witham, Perth and Kilburn in London. Aldi confirmed the timetable on 5 November as part of a £300 million investment in its existing UK store estate.
The changes include enlarged or refreshed shopping areas, improved fresh food and produce departments, bakery upgrades, health and beauty sections and more energy-efficient equipment. The company has not published a separate investment figure for each of the eight locations.
When are the eight Aldi supermarkets reopening? Aldi confirmed the following dates and addresses:
- 5 November: Allerton Road, Bradford.
- 12 November: Charter Way, Liskeard; Patrick Street, Greenock.
- 19 November: Dartington Drive, Cardiff; Ellison Road, Dunston; Reid Road, Witham.
- 26 November: Inveralmond Retail Park, Perth.
- 3 December: Kilburn High Road, London.
The dates matter to grocery suppliers as well as local shoppers. A store refurbishment can change fixture space and the visibility of fresh produce, chilled products, bakery and seasonal lines. Aldi has not announced new supply tenders tied to these particular reopenings, so any commercial effects on category allocations remain unconfirmed.
Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK’s managing director of national real estate, said the retailer was investing in more space, refreshed departments and energy-saving technology to improve existing shops for the communities they serve.
How does the £300 million programme differ from Aldi’s new-store expansion? The £300 million relates to improvements to existing supermarkets. Aldi separately plans £370 million of investment in new stores during 2026 and has outlined another £900 million for 2027, including 40 new stores. These amounts should not be treated as a single newly announced fund.
That distinction is important when assessing Aldi’s UK growth. Refurbishment aims to improve existing capacity and trading conditions; new openings extend geographical coverage. The latter programme includes new Aldi stores due before Christmas, while the latest eight locations are established stores returning after upgrades.
Aldi has also previously detailed its 2027 expansion investment and supplier commitments. For manufacturers, both developments point to the importance of reliable central distribution, seasonal availability and the ability to serve a wider UK store network.
The company reported UK and Ireland turnover of £19 billion for the year ended December 2025, up 5%, in its October trading update. That historical figure provides scale, rather than a forecast of sales generated by the new refurbishments.
Three stores are scheduled to reopen on 19 November, followed by Perth on 26 November and the Kilburn High Road store on 3 December.
Editor’s Note: Based on Aldi UK’s 5 November announcement and its previously published expansion update. The distinction between existing-store refurbishment and new-store expenditure is central to understanding this investment.
