International Paper has confirmed a mass layoff at its Compton, California facility after filing a WARN notice with the state on 14 November 2025.
The filing shows 128 roles are affected. Under the U.S. Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, large employers must provide 60 days’ written notice ahead of a plant closing or mass layoff.
The notice formally records the planned reduction and begins the required reporting process with state authorities. It does not include further detail on the timing of the job cuts or operational changes at the site.
International Paper, based in Memphis, is one of the world’s largest packaging manufacturers with operations in more than 30 countries.
Why This Matters
The Compton facility is part of International Paper’s North American network supplying corrugated packaging to food, beverage, and consumer goods producers. Any workforce reduction can influence service levels for regional suppliers and logistics partners.
It also follows other footprint reviews across the wider U.S. packaging sector, where shifting demand and cost pressures have led to selective restructuring.
For retailers and FMCG suppliers operating on the West Coast, changes at major converters like International Paper may shape upcoming contract planning, capacity forecasts, and lead-time expectations.
