Frozen dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets sold under Great Value may contain unsafe levels of lead, FSIS has warned. The alert affects Walmart stores nationwide, with consumers urged not to eat the product.

The nuggets were produced on February 10, 2026, in 29-oz. bags containing about 36 pieces. Look for the “BEST IF USED BY FEB 10 2027” date and lot code 0416DPO1215. While the products are no longer in stores, some may still be in home freezers.

The contamination was discovered through routine state testing. Lead is especially dangerous for young children and pregnant women, as it can harm developing brains and nervous systems. FSIS said the levels detected could be up to five times higher than the FDA’s reference level for children.

Why it matters

Even small amounts of lead can cause lasting health problems, including learning difficulties, developmental delays, and behavioral issues in children. Pregnant women exposed to lead may risk developmental issues for the fetus. Frozen foods like these nuggets are often stored for months, meaning U.S. families could unknowingly have them in their freezers.

For the us supermarket and FMCG sector, this alert highlights the importance of routine safety checks, supplier oversight, and the potential reputational impact for retailers like Walmart. Products already on shelves or in homes can affect consumer trust, drive returns, and prompt additional FSIS monitoring.

FSIS emphasizes that there is no safe level of lead exposure, making this alert urgent for households across the country. Consumers should discard the nuggets or return them to Walmart. FSIS and Dorada Foods are continuing investigations to ensure no other products are affected. Questions can be directed to John Patrick Lopez, VP at Dorada Foods, or the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854).
