Mitsubishi Electric has acquired the APAC Group and COMPAC Group in the Netherlands, strengthening its European cooling business as demand for mission-critical cooling systems continues to grow across the region.
The acquisition was completed on 13 July through Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems (MEHITS), the company’s wholly owned subsidiary specialising in commercial air conditioning and IT cooling equipment.
Based in Utrecht, APAC Group designs, installs and maintains cooling systems for data centres, while COMPAC Group provides sales, installation and maintenance services for applied air conditioning systems used in factories, offices and commercial buildings.
Mitsubishi Electric said the acquisition will strengthen its ability to provide customers with a complete service offering covering equipment supply, installation, commissioning and long-term maintenance. The company expects the move to support further expansion of its European data centre cooling business.
The deal comes as data centre construction continues to accelerate across Europe. While Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris and Dublin remain the region’s largest hubs, new developments are increasingly being built across northern and southern Europe, creating growing demand for reliable cooling infrastructure and lifecycle support services.
Rather than simply supplying cooling equipment, data centre operators are increasingly seeking partners capable of delivering complete solutions that include installation, maintenance and system optimisation to ensure continuous operation of critical facilities.
Why the acquisition matters
Although the acquisition is centred on the data centre sector, it reflects a much broader change taking place across the commercial cooling industry.
Manufacturers are increasingly expanding beyond equipment production by acquiring installation and maintenance businesses. This allows them to offer customers a single point of contact throughout the entire lifecycle of a cooling system, from design and installation to servicing, upgrades and long-term support.
For Mitsubishi Electric, adding the engineering and service capabilities of APAC Group and COMPAC Group strengthens its position in one of Europe’s fastest-growing infrastructure markets while creating opportunities for recurring service revenue alongside equipment sales.
The transaction also demonstrates how the commercial cooling market is evolving. Customers are placing greater emphasis on energy efficiency, system reliability and preventive maintenance as cooling systems become more critical to business operations.
Although the immediate focus is data centres, the engineering expertise, service networks and cooling technologies used in these facilities also support wider commercial markets, including logistics hubs, industrial sites and other temperature-controlled environments where reliable cooling is essential.
Strengthening Mitsubishi Electric’s European service network
APAC Group was established in 1987 and employs 55 people. The company specialises in the design, installation and maintenance of cooling systems for data centres and server rooms throughout the Netherlands.
COMPAC Group was established in 2014 and employs 16 people. Its expertise covers applied air conditioning systems for factories, commercial buildings and industrial facilities.
By combining these capabilities with MEHITS’ portfolio of commercial air conditioning and IT cooling products, Mitsubishi Electric aims to build a stronger one-stop service business across Europe.
The company also said it plans to expand beyond cooling systems by offering broader data centre infrastructure solutions, including power systems, equipment monitoring and security technologies.
As demand for resilient digital infrastructure continues to grow, the acquisition positions Mitsubishi Electric to compete more effectively in Europe’s expanding market for integrated cooling and technical services.
