Food & Drinks Malaysia by SIAL has unveiled the 10 finalists for its 2026 SIAL Innovation Awards, showcasing emerging food and beverage products that reflect the latest trends shaping supermarket shelves, private label development and international food sourcing.
The finalists will be presented during Food & Drinks Malaysia by SIAL 2026, taking place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur from 21–23 July. Organisers expect the event to attract more than 18,000 trade visitors, over 500 exhibitors, 10 international pavilions and more than 1,000 products from around the world.
Rather than recognising products for novelty alone, the SIAL Innovation Awards highlight developments that respond to changing consumer demand. This year’s finalists point to growing interest in healthier formulations, high-protein foods, upcycled ingredients, functional nutrition and products inspired by regional Asian flavours.
Innovation shifts from concept to commercial opportunity
The 2026 finalists demonstrate how food manufacturers are moving beyond traditional product launches to develop products that address multiple consumer expectations at once.
Health benefits now extend across everyday categories, from flour-free noodles and protein-rich snacks to mushroom-enriched cocoa drinks and vitamin-fortified beverages. At the same time, sustainability is becoming a stronger product differentiator, with ingredients once considered waste now finding commercial value through food innovation.
For supermarket buyers, wholesalers and distributors, these developments offer insight into product categories likely to attract consumer attention over the coming years.
Health, protein and sustainability lead product innovation
Among the finalists is Pakdee’s 7 Days 7 Noodles, a flour-free noodle range from Thailand offering low-fat, low-calorie and low-sodium formulations with different functional health benefits.
Thailand’s Milkkin Innovation appears twice in the Top 10 with its Milkkin Whey Protein Snack and ProThin High Protein Chips, highlighting continued demand for convenient, protein-enriched snacks.
Malaysia-based Alt Synergy was recognised for MuneFizz, an effervescent drink containing liposomal vitamin C together with calcium, zinc and vitamin D3, reflecting growing consumer interest in functional beverages.
Another Malaysian finalist, Grusonn Wellness, was selected for ShroomKoko Cocoa Beverage Mix, combining cocoa with functional mushrooms including lion’s mane, cordyceps, tiger’s milk mushroom and black fungus.
Upcycled ingredients gain commercial momentum
Sustainability also features strongly among this year’s finalists.
Thailand’s Lemon Me Farm earned recognition for its Lime Peel Roll, a fibre-rich snack produced from upcycled lime peel generated during juice production. The product reflects increasing industry efforts to reduce food waste while creating value-added consumer products.
The selection suggests that circular economy principles are becoming increasingly important in new product development rather than remaining limited to sustainability initiatives.
Regional flavours continue expanding internationally
Several finalists demonstrate how local flavours are being adapted for broader retail markets.
Malaysia’s Way Sauce was recognised for its Musang King Kaya Coconut Jam, combining traditional coconut spread with premium Musang King durian while meeting halal requirements.
South Korea’s Dahaefood was selected for its Green Tea Seed Bibim Jeotgal, which uses green tea to enhance umami flavour while reducing the perceived saltiness of fermented seafood.
These products reflect growing international demand for authentic regional flavours that can appeal to both domestic and export markets.
Why it matters for supermarkets
The SIAL Innovation Top 10 provides retailers with an early indication of where product development is heading.
Across the finalists, several themes stand out: functional nutrition, higher protein content, clean-label positioning, waste reduction, convenience and premium regional ingredients. These trends increasingly influence supermarket category planning, private label innovation and international sourcing decisions.
As consumer demand continues to evolve, retailers are looking for products that combine health, sustainability and distinctive flavours without compromising convenience or value. The 2026 finalists demonstrate how manufacturers are responding to those expectations through commercially scalable innovation.
