Walmart is expanding its international e-commerce reach by opening Walmart.com to customers in Mexico, giving shoppers access to hundreds of thousands of additional products available through its online marketplace.
The move allows customers in Mexico to browse and purchase a wider range of items across categories including apparel, home goods, electronics, and other consumer products that were previously unavailable through Walmart’s existing local e-commerce offerings.
The expansion marks a significant step in Walmart’s strategy to grow its marketplace business and extend the reach of Walmart.com beyond the United States. Mexico becomes the first market to gain direct access to the retailer’s expanded online assortment through cross-border shipping.
Expanding Cross-Border E-Commerce
Orders placed through Walmart.com will be fulfilled through the retailer’s established U.S. logistics network, with international shipping and customs clearance managed by third-party carriers.
To improve transparency for customers, Walmart said estimated duties, taxes, and related fees will be calculated and displayed during checkout, allowing shoppers to see the full cost of their purchases before completing an order.
The retailer is also offering free shipping on eligible orders of $35 or more for a limited period, although taxes and duties will still apply.
The launch reflects growing investment in cross-border retail and marketplace expansion as major retailers seek new ways to reach consumers outside their traditional markets.
For marketplace sellers, the initiative could provide access to a broader customer base without requiring separate operations in Mexico, while giving shoppers access to a larger assortment of products and brands.
The development may also attract attention across the US supermarket sector, where retailers are increasingly investing in omnichannel capabilities, digital marketplaces, and international e-commerce growth.
Walmart said it plans to expand international shipping to additional markets in the future, signalling further opportunities for global marketplace growth through Walmart.com.
