ALDI Nord is increasing its focus on locally sourced strawberries during the German strawberry season, with the retailer confirming that its strawberry assortment has come from German farms whenever possible since the beginning of May.
The retailer announced the move to coincide with German Strawberry Day on May 26. According to ALDI Nord, short delivery routes allow the fruit to reach stores within around 24 hours after harvesting, helping maintain freshness and quality during the peak season.
The company said current weather conditions across Germany, including sunny days and mild temperatures, are supporting this year’s strawberry harvest.
ALDI Nord said the programme is supported through long-term partnerships with German growers and suppliers to help secure stable seasonal supply throughout the strawberry season.
The retailer is also highlighting the role of local producers through additional campaign material and interviews with German strawberry farmers connected to its supply chain.
Regional sourcing has become an increasingly important strategy for European supermarket retailers as consumers continue to look for fresher produce and shorter supply chains. Supermarkets across the market are also using local sourcing initiatives to strengthen seasonal assortment planning and improve produce quality perception.
The latest strawberry initiative reflects how retailers are continuing to invest in local agricultural partnerships across the Germany fresh produce sector while managing seasonal supply and logistics efficiency.
