The John Lewis Partnership has appointed Gerry Mallon as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Board of John Lewis Finance Limited, the regulated subsidiary that oversees John Lewis Money.
The appointment, announced on 1 July, is subject to the usual regulatory checks and takes effect immediately.
Mallon brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in financial services. His previous roles include Chief Executive of Tesco Bank, Ulster Bank Ireland and Danske Bank. He is currently Chief Executive of True Potential LLP.
John Lewis Money provides insurance, credit, travel money and payment products, supporting the Partnership’s retail strategy across its John Lewis and Waitrose brands. The business serves around 1.4 million customers and facilitated £1.5 billion of customer spending across the two retail brands during the past year.
The appointment comes as John Lewis Money continues to expand its financial services offering. The business is progressing its move to become an Financial Conduct Authority-authorised and regulated insurance and credit broker, a step intended to strengthen its insurance proposition through broader cover and more competitive pricing.
For the wider UK supermarket sector, customer finance, insurance and payment services have become increasingly important tools for strengthening loyalty beyond traditional grocery shopping. Retailers are continuing to invest in complementary services that encourage customers to remain within their wider retail ecosystems.
