Mondelēz International has opened applications for its CoLab Tech 2026 accelerator programme, targeting new technologies that support snack innovation, sustainable packaging, and long-term supply chain resilience.
The programme was announced on January 22 and is led by Mondelēz’s global research and development team.
CoLab Tech is designed to connect the company with early-stage technology businesses developing solutions that can be scaled across Mondelēz’s global snack portfolio. Up to 10 start-ups will be selected for the 2026 cohort.
This year’s programme will focus on four core areas. These include climate resilience technologies aimed at protecting ingredient supply chains such as cocoa and wheat, performance technologies that improve energy efficiency and manufacturing processes, next-generation ingredients that increase fibre and protein content, and new product and packaging solutions that enhance shelf life while reducing plastic use.
Mondelēz said participating companies will receive structured support through virtual learning sessions, one-to-one mentoring, and potential proof-of-concept testing. Selected start-ups will also gain access to technical experts across the company’s research, production, and commercial teams.
For supermarkets and grocery retailers, the accelerator highlights how major global snack suppliers are investing in future-ready product development. Health-focused reformulation, packaging sustainability upgrades, and supply chain stability remain priority areas for retailers managing evolving consumer demand and regulatory pressure.
Packaging innovation is a central part of the programme. Mondelēz is actively seeking non-plastic packaging solutions that maintain product quality and food safety standards. These developments are closely linked to retailer sustainability commitments and upcoming packaging regulation changes in multiple markets.
Ingredient technology is another key focus. New solutions aimed at improving nutrition profiles while preserving taste are expected to influence future product launches across biscuits, chocolate, and snack categories.
Applications for the CoLab Tech 2026 programme will remain open until March 31. Eligible companies must have a minimum viable product and employ at least five people. Selected participants will join Mondelēz’s global innovation ecosystem later this year.
The company said outcomes from the programme could help shape the next generation of snack products and packaging formats entering retail channels worldwide.
