Mondelēz International has expanded a voluntary recall of selected CHIPS AHOY! Baked Bites Brookie products in the United States, adding further SKUs and additional date codes to an earlier recall issued on December 24.
The expanded recall was confirmed on December 30 and applies to a limited number of retail stores nationwide.
The expansion covers one additional best-before date and two further UPCs linked to product pouches packed inside previously recalled carton units. Mondelēz said the decision followed a further review of production records connected to the original recall.
According to the company, an incorrect mixing process during production resulted in the formation of small corn starch clumps in the product. Because of their size and texture, the clumps could pose a choking risk, particularly for higher-risk groups such as young children and elderly consumers.
No injuries or illnesses have been reported to date. The recall is being carried out as a precautionary measure.
The recall expansion applies only to the following CHIPS AHOY! Baked Bites Brookie items:

For supermarket buyers, wholesalers, and FMCG category managers, the expanded recall highlights the operational challenges that can arise when recalls evolve after an initial announcement. These include re-checking store and depot inventory against updated date codes, verifying carton-to-pouch relationships in mixed cases, ensuring secondary withdrawals are communicated clearly to stores, and managing supplier coordination when recalls expand mid-cycle — pressures that reflect wider US FMCG Trends 2025 around traceability, compliance, and execution in grocery supply chains.
Mondelēz confirmed the recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the US Food and Drug Administration.
