Morrisons has become the first supermarket chain in the United Kingdom to install male sanitary bins in customer toilets across all its stores nationwide.
The rollout follows new ‘The Bog Standard’ guidelines developed by Prostate Cancer UK and phs Group to improve support for men living with incontinence, including many people who have undergone prostate cancer treatment.
Morrisons said the installation programme was introduced following customer feedback and forms part of a wider accessibility strategy across its supermarket estate.
The retailer said all stores across the UK now provide male sanitary disposal facilities designed to improve dignity, accessibility and confidence for customers using public toilets.
The initiative follows several other accessibility-related changes introduced by Morrisons in recent months. Earlier this year, the supermarket chain launched stoma-friendly toilets across all stores and added NHS-linked cancer symptom messaging to selected own-brand bath and shower products.
In 2025, Morrisons also introduced Sensory Support Boxes in stores to support customers with autism during shopping visits.
According to figures referenced in the announcement, up to 60% of men who undergo radical prostatectomy treatment may experience urinary incontinence. Research cited by phs Group also found that more than one-third of men affected by incontinence had reduced or stopped grocery shopping because of limited access to suitable facilities in public male toilets.
The new rollout means Morrisons now meets all requirements under The Bog Standard guidelines nationwide.
The move could increase pressure on other retailers to review accessibility standards inside stores as customer expectations around inclusive supermarket facilities continue evolving across the wider UK supermarket sector.
