Carrefour Express Veldegem reopened on 6 November 2026 after a refit. The Belgian store installed CO₂ refrigeration and set aside four metres of shelf space for local products.
Franchisee Louis Maes refitted the Koning Albertstraat store to Carrefour’s Express 4.0 format. The store recovers heat from the new refrigeration system to warm the premises.
For operators assessing supermarket refrigeration in Belgium, heat recovery is a separate consideration from cabinet efficiency. Its value depends partly on when the store needs heat. Carrefour did not disclose the project cost or measured energy savings.
The fresh range includes fruit and vegetables, rotisserie chicken and bread baked on site. The local shelves carry Verhofstede fruit juice, Noordvelde products and Wostyn mustard, alongside regional confectionery.
For suppliers selling into Belgian supermarkets, the refit shows how a franchise can give local brands dedicated shelf space. The announced listings apply to Veldegem.
The next change is due in December. Maes plans to install a proving cabinet so dough can rise in the shop before baking.
