Woolworths’ Everyday Rewards programme is extending its fuel-voucher network to almost 1,000 Australian locations through a partnership with self-service operator U-GO, announced on 29 September.
The rollout covers more than 45 U-GO sites. Members can receive a four-cent-per-litre discount after spending at least A$30 in one transaction at a participating Woolworths supermarket or Metro store and scanning their membership card.
They can also earn one Everyday Rewards point for each litre purchased at participating U-GO locations. The discount and points are separate benefits: the first reduces the fuel bill, while the second builds towards a later reward.
The wider voucher network includes around 500 EG Ampol sites and 450 Ampol Foodary locations. The announcement expands where the existing grocery-linked fuel offer can be used; it does not introduce a larger headline discount.
For Australia’s supermarket operators, the commercial value lies in linking spending outside the food aisle to a future shopping trip. Fuel gives customers another reason to scan their card and remain active within the same loyalty programme.
“Fuel is a major expense for Australian households,” said Hannah Ross, managing director of Everyday Rewards.
A 50-litre qualifying fill would produce an immediate A$2 discount and earn 50 points. That example illustrates why the pump saving should not be confused with a large immediate grocery reward: members need 2,000 points to redeem A$10 off a future shop.
Woolworths says members saved nearly A$40 million through its fuel vouchers last financial year. The announcement does not disclose the cost-sharing arrangement with U-GO or quantify any expected increase in supermarket sales.
The extension also takes loyalty systems into an unstaffed, pay-at-pump format. Reliable card recognition and clear confirmation of discounts become particularly important where there is no staffed checkout to resolve a missing benefit.
The competitive test will be whether the combined offer remains attractive against nearby pump prices. A loyalty discount alone does not establish that a station has the lowest final price, and participation remains limited to eligible locations.
More U-GO locations are expected to be announced as the rollout progresses, expanding the places where a qualifying grocery purchase can translate into fuel savings.
