Nestle Waters Marks Five Years of Sustainability Partnership in Derbyshire

Nestlé Waters Derbyshire partnership

Nestle Waters & Premium Beverages UK has marked five years of its Nestlé Waters Derbyshire partnership with the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust at its Buxton bottling site.

The ten-year land stewardship programme covers 190 acres around the former Lightwood Reservoir and Cowdale Quarry. The Nestle Waters Derbyshire partnership aims to enhance biodiversity, protect water quality, and bring lasting benefits to the local community.

To celebrate the milestone, volunteers from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust joined Nestle Waters teams for a guided visit to the Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust’s Visitor Experience and the BUXTON and NESTLÉ PURE LIFE bottling site. They also toured the wildflower meadow and community garden that have become central to the Nestlé Waters Derbyshire partnership.

At Lightwood, more than 1,500 species have been recorded, along with 25 bird boxes and 250 new trees. The site has also launched a Wild Map to track local wildlife. At Cowdale, over 550 species have been identified, with 1,535 native trees planted and 26 butterfly species recorded in 2025 — a sharp rise compared to earlier years.

Conservation efforts include scrub removal, improved fencing for grazing, and wildlife-friendly techniques to manage invasive plants such as Japanese Knotweed. Native Exmoor Ponies have also been introduced to support natural grassland management.

Why it matters

The Nestle Waters Derbyshire partnership demonstrates how a leading bottled water producer is linking environmental protection with responsible sourcing. The Buxton site supplies major UK supermarkets, and this project reflects how FMCG producers are responding to retailer sustainability goals through nature-led regeneration.
