Cascades appointed Martin Brisson as vice-president, corporate strategy and investor relations on 2 November, adding an executive with procurement and acquisition experience to the Canadian packaging group’s leadership team.
Brisson will oversee the development and delivery of strategic priorities. His remit includes identifying growth opportunities with senior management and maintaining communication with investors.
He brings more than 20 years of experience across business transformation, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, corporate strategy and procurement.
President and chief executive Hugues Simon said that experience “will be a significant asset in supporting our growth ambitions”.
The appointment places responsibility for strategy alongside the explanation of that strategy to shareholders. That connection matters for a manufacturer whose investment decisions affect a broad North American production network.
Founded in 1964, Cascades employs nearly 9,000 people across 60 operating facilities in North America. Its activities span packaging, hygiene and recovered materials. The group is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol CAS.
Among the packaging companies in Canada, Cascades has a direct connection to grocery supply chains through corrugated packaging and recycled paperboard used by food and consumer-goods businesses.
Its recent product development includes lithoURB recycled paperboard, launched in September for printed corrugated and folding-carton packaging. Applications include beverage multipacks, food packs and fresh-produce packaging.
For grocery manufacturers, the relevance of corporate strategy lies in where a supplier directs capital, technical development and production resources. Those choices can influence the grades available to customers and the capacity behind longer-term supply agreements.
Brisson’s appointment announcement did not set out a new acquisition or a change to customer supply terms. The commercial impact will depend on the investment and operating decisions that follow.
Cascades is due to release its third-quarter 2026 results on 5 November, before the market opens. A conference call is scheduled for 9am Eastern time, providing the next opportunity for management to discuss performance and the group’s priorities.
